A Tribute To The Military Spouse by

Memorial Day, Hampton National Veterans Cemetary in Phoebus, VA. I like this shot particularly because all Veterans appear to be anonymous. Only the name of one Spouse (Ethel J. Allen) is engraved in the headstone just right of center. Often times, the military spouses rarely get honored and they really need to be, considering how hard military life can be on them as well. Best viewed in large format.

    Hi Andy,

An emotive image and yes, I cannot agree with you more.

I think that the wife/husband of anyone in the military deserves far more recognition of the sacrifices which duty demands of them. Not only do I speak of the ultimate sacrifice under which they have to live their lives, but the everyday burden which they have to carry in support of their loved one’s chosen career.

It is fashionable these days to disparage the notions of honour and sacrifice, but for those who have served with honour, these old-fashioned virtues are the very code by which they lived their lives.

Thanks for the very poignant fellings which your image has evoked.

    Regards,

    Mike

Very, very sad and poignant photograph. Wonderful job of making the statement you set out to do. It’s so remindful to me of the Leavenworth National Cemetery where my sister and cousin were buried this last fall and winter.

The spouses are in fact named on the headstones there, and they really say a lot without saying anything.

I thank God with all my heart that we not only have young men and women who are willing to protect us, often with little support from Washington, and the spouses that support them and hold the family together at home.

The colors and tones in this bring the whole thing off even more dramatically.

Thank you Andy. We ALL need to realize and remember why we have the freedoms we have.

    God bless you.

  • Thank YOU Don, very well stated comment.
