Heading to the Grand Canyon

Alright, hoping to illicit some information here …... I have the opportunity to travel to the Grand Canyon this weekend, staying in Williams, AZ. Plannning on going to the South Rim for sure, and maybe paying the North Rim a visit as well. Since I have never been, any photographic advice? I’m taking the D200, Tokina 12-24mm, Nikon 24-120mm and the Sigma 50-500mm and of course the Tripod. I’m hoping to get Sunrise and Sunset shots. On my way back to Las Vegas, I will also try to visit the Skywalk (glass walkway which literally goes over the top of the Canyon).

Any advice is appreciated, is the park open 24 hours, for instance?

Haven’t been yet, but I did a google search for ‘Grand Canyon Photography Tips’ and found some good stuff. You may want to check into that further. Here are a few sites I found that seemed like they’d have good info – though some of it I’m sure you already know…

http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America/United_States_of_America/Arizona/Grand_Canyon_National_Park-749660/General_Tips-Grand_Canyon_National_Park-TG-C-1.html (this looked particularly good – lots of photographers give their tips on different topics within the GC)

There are others that looked promising, too…check ‘em out! : )

My advise…when you’re at the top don’t fall off it about 300 rolls to the bottom. D’oh!!

Can’t wait to see shots of the skywalk!! We did not get the chance to visit that when out there last summer. The Grand Canyon is beautiful at both rims!

There won’t be any ducks there? Just cancelled the entire trip …. How can there not be any ducks? There is a river at the bottom isn’t there?

I believe there is a river at the bottom…..
But your old and crippled body would not make the trek down the canyon eh?

Whats to know about parachuting anyway?

Any monkey can jump out of an aircraft!!
The static line does all the work!

Ouch, that was not even nice …... You know, the jumping part is the easy part, it’s the mission that follows the jump that is tough …..Not so sure they trained monkeys to sit still on a 3 day ambush and then cut down the opposing force when they ventured right into your trap ….
