The Signal

The Signal

I roam the streets, wondering
where will I go, where should I look, how will I find you?
A quiet panic runs through me, a city of millions, like ants,
where should I turn?
I begin to sweat ever so slightly, my mouth – dry , my heart beginning to race.
Faces, smells and sounds they all blend together as one,
cars honking, folks laughing and talking -
—- Wait, could that be?
That is your voice I hear!
I turn around and search for you, looking all around, where might you be, can’t you give me a sign?
And then, out of the corner of my eye, the sign I have been waiting for – you gave “The Signal”

(Writing inspired by Shelly Hieberts’ recent poem The Ride
