Putting the old cat to rest
Image taken at the 2006 NAS Oceana airshow. Just several weeks later the Tomcat performed it’s last flights, as they are being retired and scrapped. Planes are from Strike Fighter Squadron VF-31. (USS Theodore Roosevelt).

Michael, yes it is so. Very sad to not see these in the air anymore. What an awesome plane the Tomcat always will be ….

Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full – I never tire of that “quote”. I have quite a few good shots of this old bird, didn’t realize when I took them that noone else will ever get a better shot than me !!!! Sorry Photogenique, I missed your question above, they are being replaced by the F-18 Hornet and Superhornets.

Apart from the spitfire, this is still the best looking plane to ever have flown
I’m going to miss her…

Hmmm, I’ gonna have to disagree on that one: Best looking plane for me is the ME-262. I always loved the looks of the F-4 Phantom as well. Now the Raptor is “doing it” for me …..

Nice capture of these Tomcats. I was at that show and have almost an identical image, mine just has the gear still partially down. We must have been standing right next to each other. Airshows are just not the same without them :(
