Double Trouble
Captured this scene at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA. The amount of aircraft on display in this museum is truly impressive. Later that day the owner took the P-51 Mustang for a flight which included a couple of low-level highspeed passes. The aircraft to the right in this image is a PBY Catalina.
Taken with the Nikon D300 and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lens. Light HDR processing applied.

Double Trouble belongs to the following groups:
Aeronautics & Aviation, United States, War and WARBIRDS Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

I’d give my right “one” for a hour or so of him taking the P51 thru it’s paces… Nice color and detail.
Andy Mueller replied
Dennis, it is one thing to see one fly at an airshow, it is another thing altogether to watch the pilot walk up, jump on the wing, climb aboard, don the leather flying helmet and goggles and run through the pre-flight checks. And then the Rolls-Royce Merlin roars to life – WOW ….You might give “both”. hehehehe
Krys Bailey
Superb shot and treatment of this lovely old plane! They don’t make ‘em like this any more! A real beauty! ;o)
Andy Mueller replied
Thank you Krys, it’s nice to shoot some different “birds” on occasion! Love these old warbirds….
Colin Hollywood
Nice shot Andy.
I am not a fan of HDR, but it works well here.
Andy Mueller replied
Thanks Colin, yes I kept it somewhat “muted”, just wanted to bring out the shadow on the P-51, since it’s named Double Trouble.
Krys Bailey
Yo, I can understand that! We’re all mad on the old Spitfire round here – we’re living in it’s hometown (Southampton – see its not just famous for sinking ships) ;o)
Andy Mueller replied
I love the old Spitfire and Hurricane as well. Such cool planes. Back when there was still a bit of chivalry ….. even during air to air combat.
Mark Weaver

The most beautiful aircraft of all time (for me anyway) Andy, and the sound has nothing to do with it (pigs arse it doesn’t hehe) ,and it all becomes a symphony of airborne grace and power that is spellbinding, stunning image!!!

Cool plain….love fighter plains…old ones, new ones…futuristic ones…
By the way, do you have a lot of experience with sigma lenses (see you are using one here).
I’ve registered they have very good offers on lenses I could use for my Canon, but someone said they were a lot less light sensitive than Canon originals. But I am prepared to accept a small amount of loss in that department in exchange for a horrible price level sported by Canon original accessory…hope you can give a tip, I want a good all round zoom lens to supply the original lens this summer…any recommendation as to what size I would be best served with for all round purposes would be most appreciated?

Andy Mueller replied
Hey Per! Have not seen you around much! I have five Sigma lenses and am very pleased with all of them. My main lens is in fact the 50-500mm Bigma. It gives me an excellent range, but is a bit of a beast to carry. I would not hesitate to buy a Sigma lens, I think they have become quite good quality & build wise. I also have a Sigma 70-300mm (just bought it on eBay – so not much use yet), have a 18-50mm f/2.8 (which is great). I use my Sigma 105mm f/2.8 for my macro photography, again, very happy with that lens. I also have an old 28mm f/2.8 manual focal lens, also very decent. But the one lens I could not live without, is the 50-500mm f/4 – f/6.3. It is slow in less than ideal light, but in nice weather it really get’s good results for me.
