From The Diary

January 29, 1944
Returning from a raid on the Frankfurt marshalling yards. Flak was especially heavy and accurate, saw several ships peel out of formation with extensive damage. 2 ships collided during a head-on ME-109 attack, counted only 7 chutes. We’re heading home into a beautiful golden sunset, the ship directly in front of us has left wing damage and it’s landing gear partially torn off. It’s gonna be a rough one for them … Lead is just turning right to indicate final approach, looks like we made it through another one.

APRIL 20, 1944: Tonight was my last operational sortie. Went to Cologne with Flying-Officer J. A. Critchley, who comes from Melbourne, and on this, my 90th mission, I was pleased to have yet another Australian crew. I’ve now had 29 Aussie crews, and could not have wanted any better. Harry Tickle is proud of me, and I am proud to have had his careful attention throughout my long tour.

I am what they call a veteran now – an oldtimer. But the war isn’t over for all we’ve plastered Jerry. Sixteen trips to Berlin, five to Hanover and Essen, four to Cologne and Mannheim and Frankfurt – and the rest. It’s been tough going at times, but I’m not done yet. Even if I am to be retired from ops – perhaps there is some other way I can help.

By the way Michael, I was born in Essen! Very cool dialogue you posted.

Rejected from the WAR group? Are you people out of your minds? I knew I should have just accepted it myself …. Have you seen the wing and foot on that trail bird? Again, NO Sympathy for the veterans …. LMAO ….

Thanks a lot Michael….for throwing me under the bus. I appreciate it…..Andy….you could have accepted it…but Ms HA….would have ditched it….when she did some group cleaning:).......

  • Andy Mueller IPA

Andy Mueller IPA in reply to Angel Perry’s comment, about 1 month ago

Ditched like the 2 birds in the shot? That won’t make it back to the airstrip and have to attempt a water landing in the Channel? Do you know how deadly those are? How cold that water is? Moderators ….. jeeze !!! .... Allright, I’m gonna go and post some stuff to the Waterfowl group, where my hard work is appreciated ….

Read comment left for Angel below – I knew we should not have granted her THOSE priveleges. You give them just a little bit of power and then they decide to take over …...

  • Angel Perry

Angel Perry, about 1 month ago

Take over??? Tell me Mr. Tough guy…the last time either of you approved something….Dang those slack moderators….....And BTW…..I’m not taking over….just taking charge:)
And I’m certain the bird group will welcome this image with open arms….even though it has not been added yet??? HMMMM…must be waiting on mederation…..:)

    Now Now children…..play Nice!

Absolute power corrupts Andy….you know it, and I know it. But it seems one member of the Top Brass does not.
Our own Miss Angel seems to have gone power crazy…..rejecting images willy nilly!

What disciplinary action would you recommend General Mueller?

  • Andy Mueller IPA

Andy Mueller IPA in reply to Michael Bermingham WP’s comment, about 1 month ago

At least 20 lashes with a wet noodle then an Article 15, 45 days extra duty and 2 months cut in pay should do it? Do you concur?

  • Andy Mueller IPA

Andy Mueller IPA in reply to Angel Perry’s comment, about 1 month ago

POWER!!!? How about….More like following the rules!!!!! That you guys created….Few….I only did not recognize 3 things….but I guess that would = few…so your right I suppose….Anxiously awaiting the waterfowl approval eh? Would HATE to see you rejected twice!!!
