Chipping Away
Back to the local park, and out of the blue the same Pileated Woodpecker I got some shots of a few weeks ago, returned for yet another photo shoot. This time he was about 20 yards from me, and easily stayed for 10 minutes or so. Needless to say, he was easy prey with the D200 and Sigma 50-500mm lens. I love the pieces of bark flying around as he was looking for breakfast.

Woah, Andy! This is great! Pileateds are notoriously shy. I have been trying to get the pair that live near my parent’s house for several years; can’t get close enough & 300 lens is too small. And you managed to get him in mid-destroy of that tree (love the flying chips). They do soome real damage; their holes are huge!
