May 1943, Eastern England
Finally taking a break from the constant bombing missions over Germany. The crew remains in good spirits and morale is high. Today we got some downtime and managed to have a baseball game between guys from the 457th Bomb Group and the Escort Fighter pilots. Got this shot of Lt. White “Lightening” sliding onto home plate and winning the game. Umpire Dave “Goose” declares White to be safe …. Had many beers and smokes that evening and rasing the losers.
Tomorrow will be another Milk Run to Braunschweig.
