The loudspeaker crackles back to life as the crowd is awed by yet another flyby from the Mallard Flight Demo Team: “And approaching from the left, take notice of the two lead birds perform their coveted Mallard Mirror Pass, the trailing Slot Bird will perform a sharp right bank maneuver while the third Mallard will move up into the “missing bird” formation”. The crowd uuhhs and aahhs, shutters are clicking away at 5 frames per second ….. kids screaming in excitement, grown men wiping the tears from their eyes ….. It was another good show.

All was going well…Untill Mallard 3 performed a “Split S” at the wrong time. Clipping Mallard 4’s wing.
Unable to recover, It ploughed into a crowd of frogs….Killing five on the ground, and the Mallard pilot.

This reporter has just learned that several witnesses on the ground are reported to have seen smoke trailing from the buthole of the downed duck …moments before the fatal collision that resulted in six fatalities.
The Civil Aviation Authority have also confirmed that due to the altitude, and despite all efforts, The pilot was unable to eject in time.
We will be following this all day, and will be bringing you updates as information comes to hand, So for now its back to Andy in the Newsroom….....
