So I have a D200 and have been very pleased with it. When The D300 came out I thought it would just be an updated 200. Wrong I was, after reading the reviews and playing with one I decided to break down and get the kit. The D3 was priced way too much, and I am no pro by the stretch of the imagination. Well now Nikon announces the D700, full frame. So I am just wondering how many other Nikon owners out there basically did the same thing I did, after hearing about the D700, kicked myself in the %$# and thought man, I should have waited. Or how many of you are going to spring for it, full frame, is it that important to you. I have a ton of old Nikon glass and could see the potential there. Just the thoughts of a very bored person right now.

No way, they are photographic gifted. I am in awe of their knowledge. I aspire to be as good as they are, but alas, I am floundering in my ability to grasp the technical side of photography and rely on editing to cover up the miserable photographs that I shoot, but I am wiling to learn!

I have a Nikon D 50, who needs all the bells and whistles. Henry Carter Breson had a simple Lica and look at his work. It is the artist behind the camera. You have to learn how to use your equiptment, as one of my instructors said. Using a Canon AE1, black and white film, the pictures I entered in shows where they won proved it was the artist’s view not the camera although it helped to have at least a good piece of equiptment used propberly.
Everyone answering should know the advancement of digital is happening so fast, that what you buy today is out of date tomorrow. Upgrading can just be wasteing money.

WayoftheWarrior in reply to iGo BoiNG’s comment, about 1 month ago
I know i bought the 18-200mm lens and already had a Tokina 19-35. I just sat there staring at the announcement had made a few choice words about Nikon, seemed like they did the same thing when the released the D80. Now I can only dream of those wide angles, and a 12mm oh yeah, that would be sweetness.
iGo BoiNG, about 1 month ago
im not real happy with the tokina 12-24 wish i had of saved a bit more and got the nikon one though i think i might just have a bad copy as they get good reviews not that that means much
what do you think of the 18-200 ive been thinking of buying one when i get some more coin
WayoftheWarrior, about 1 month ago
It is excellent, I really think the VR is a little overkill for that lens, but it is failry fast and very silent. Very light and compact. Feels fairly sturdy but not like the older Nikon glass, but they are like that nowadays. The images are crisp and clear at least at the low end, Have not really used the far end past 100mm or so it yet. I have seen that is comming down in price as well. I rarley use anything else unless I am doing wildlife, My Tokina does well, u may have got a bad one. They get pretty good reviews on their wide angles. I will try and take some shots with it and post them. I took a shot called thunder road with it, it is the only one I have posted here that I have used that lens with. I will try and get some more and post them in the next few weeks when I have a chance.
iGo BoiNG, about 1 month ago
yeah it would be good to see those tokina shots
im serousely thinking about buying a 18-200 mm vr just so i can cut the weight down when im out taking shots it would replace 2-3 lenses in my bag more room for munchies =]

I have that lens. Love it too!. :)
WayoftheWarrior in reply to Elaine Farmer’s comment, about 1 month ago
It is an excellent lens. I have found to be subjective I remove my thoughts and vision and approach it as if I was doing the work for myself. In other words If I was going to buy the art, this is what I want. Also alot of writings are inspired by THE MAN, I try to keep it subjective so alot of people can realte to it and almost make it fit any situation in their life or times they are going through. Thanks, Tony

I have been trying to think that way too, about what I upload here. But there are a lot of different tastes….so it is hit and miss! But you know, we try.. :)
And as far as writing, I am not very good at that, but when I try, I think I tend to put up something that I have just learned, or taught. And if a piece touches “me”, then I tend to think that it will touch someone else too. But I love good writing and poetry. And guess I envy just a “bit”, those who are so good at it, here. Just as I envy , “just a bit”, those who are SO good at editing!!! I could sit and look at pictures all day, even my own… ha. How’s that for vanity!. :<)

OOops, meant to say, I have a D50, and saw that the D700 was coming out…and started to drool.. Well, it would take my death to pay it off, so I pray that my D50, holds on for a few more years!! Say, like 20!
WayoftheWarrior, about 1 month ago
Its not vanity is admiration of a job well done and something you created, at least that is what I tell myself.

The D300 is still a magic camera D700 would be great but cant afford to replace my glass so thats the killer maybe when i win the lottery lol NIkon still rules !
WayoftheWarrior in reply to Philip Johnson’s comment, 27 days ago
U know…...........i have to agree 100 percent.

i wodered what the reaction from Canon was when nikon suddenly announced the nikon d700, canon were hit by the d300 then took another shot by the d3. They just get ready for a new canon to come ot then nikon fire a d700 missile at them again BOOM
WayoftheWarrior in reply to Philip Johnson’s comment, 27 days ago
Gotta love it, kick em when they are down and never let em up!

I bought a D200 last year, my previous cameras being a Nikon F and Ftn. Digital photography is amazing, no film costs and with a tweak or two from Photoshop, perfect quality. Another tweak or two and you can apply the sort of retouching that used to cost 100’s. It has made photography more competitive. You don’t have to work as hard to get a quality image as with film. However, image standards have gone up all round so that must be a good thing.
As for Nikons – love ‘em. I fought with desire and common sense when the D3 came out. After 6 months, desire won. Of course this entails the need for new glass as well to match the new, or rather old perspective. I am hanging on to the D200. It is an excellent camera and the DX format means 1.5:1 using the macro, and any other full frame lens puts you 33% closer, so at times it has it’s advantages.
Just bear in mind that with the D3 or D700, it doesn’t end there. You will probably be drooling over the 14-24mm or 70-200mm as well. The stupid thing is that now I am more or less retired and don’t need this gear I can afford it. When I was a struggling young professional, just buying a lens was a years sacrifice and most of the time I had to hire gear for specific jobs. I can’t take the D3 to the grave, but I might well ask them to chuck in my old Nikon F. :-()

I hear you, I took my D300 out tonight and played with it some more, I have only shot like 200 frames with it and I decided Iam going to just use it and my D200 for awhile, They have served their purpose for me and I really do not do landscapes and need the 1.5 more for what I do. I would love to have a D3 for the wow factor but after buying the D300 and 18-200mm vr I think the wife would string me up.
