The ruins of a Cistercian monastery in the Hambleton Hills of North Yorkshire. The community moved to this site in 1177 and the abbey church they constructed was said to be one of the finest 12th century churches in Europe. The abbey was dissolved in 1538 as part of King Henry VIII’s campaign to break the power of the Catholic Church in England.
