our brumbies - coming in for a bite :) by

We have a mob of horses, most we’ve rescued from mistreatment, some born here. They are our friends, they run wild on our place. We rotate large paddocks so they always have enough feed in the bush, but they will always ‘run’ in if they hear/get wind of a feed of pellets ;)

In the 1990’s photography for me was about SLR’s & dark rooms, it was about printing your shots at 3-6am to ‘beat the light’ in you homemade darkroom to get your shots to press. I worked in music, hair and a little news, but love portraiture. Now I use a digital slr, but try to replicate shot control like in the old film days. I now longer make my living out of photography, but prefer to better my life by embracing a passion ;)

What a very kind thing to do these poor things have really fallen on their feet with you, this deservers a favorite

  • Thanks Malcolm, they are wonderful creatures – We have many stories in our paddock, ex-trotters, ex-racers, I am not a horse master though, as I call it – we work together occasionally, the middle one in the pic will actually pick up your hat and pass it back to you ;). Our predominately run wild most of their life, but every so often we put them through through the yards and do feet ’n teeth, as we say – they have never misbehaved for us (beyond what we expected ;)

Love the motion in this Marky!

  • believe it or not – they run regularly – and I never seem to have the camera ready or be in the right spot at the right time… but I was happy to get this one, I do have one shot where Little Joe (middle) is completely off the ground, but apart from that, not much of a shot ;) I shall persevere :)

Wow, this is wonderful. It’s so beautiful in B/W Mark.

  • Thanks Maree, in many ways my horses are closer to my heart than many of my relatives! Humans can be so harmful to the creatures of the earth. I find understanding of the good things in life from animals, I consider them brothers and sisters. Chief Seattle said that man would die of a great loneliness of spirit without the beasts of the earth, I know he was right. Have a great day ;)
