As many of you know I work for a college. This week we were getting ready for the reunion. We have over 900 people attending this year.We were called outside at 9A.M. to sit up tables and chairs on the green for their picnic. The dew was heavy, the grass was thick. That made for some very wet shoes & socks. I hate wet socks with a passion. I would not train my GSD for tracking, for that fact.By lunch time my shoes & socks were squeaking with every step. It was driving me nuts. I had to dry my socks out some way or go home as I was not going to squeak the rest of the day.Well my first idea was to put them in front of the AC to blow dry. It was not real popular with my coworkers of course.
My next idea was to wrap them in a towel & put them in the microwave. I put them in for 5 min & went to eat my lunch. After a few min I went to check on them. Funny smell coming from that area. Opened the microwave door & low & behold my good & favorite socks were on fire. The room was full of smoke. I pulled them out & onto the floor & then a coworker threw them into a sink full of water. At that time I was running around in circles, with a broom waving like mad trying to keep the smoke alarm from going off. Did I mention I was in the main building that the president & vice presidents have their offices. By the way the reunion people were housed there as well. I could just see the building being evacuated. All those poor old folks running for what they thought were their lives. The worst case was the sprinkling system coming on. There I was running around with a broom like a mad woman.
Lucky nothing happened. I ask my coworkers ,we are not going to keep this in the family are we. Well after they got done laughing of course they said no. So I thought I better tell my story before they could. So as I told Grounds, Building Services & Maintenance Dept the story I was able to lift their spirits with laughter, as we have worked many long hard hours to get ready for the big event. Not everyone could lift the spirits of 3 departments at one time.
That’s my story & I am sticking to it. LOL It was not funny then but I can laugh now.
As Pop will tell you I am not the brightest crayon in the box.
