MEMORY
Hidden away where no one can see
Is a part of my life that used to be
A tricycle that is old and worn
My dad bought it when I was born
When I was about three
My dad was so kind .. he gave it to me
He watched as I rode it up and down the street
As I passed him our eyes would meet
He would always have a smile on his face
And pick me up in a tight embrace
Tell me that Daddy loved me so
And then on my tricycle away I’d go
Pedaling around and having fun
It was better than having to run
I remember when we put her away
I wanted to grow up but I cried that day
Dad bought me a bicycle for a big girl
One with handlebars and a basket with a red swirl
I look back on those happy days of my life
Now being a mother and a wife
And am so gratified that he taught me so well
My heart so filled with love it could swell
I bought my child a bike when he was born
And will teach him to ride and not be forlorn
When he grows up I’ll buy him a big boy’s bike
And love him, like my daddy, for the rest of my life
