Looking at this artwork in the full 4500 pixels it is like walking in t5he streets of what is left of an old empire, like the aztecs. The details and shapes are amazing (I think).
Fractal artwork created with Mandelbulb. I did a bit postwork with Photoshop.

Fabulous details, Thea!! A most intricate design. I get the impression that color control may be difficult in Mandelbulb (based on works I have seen from other artists) but hopefully that can be overcome with using PS for postwork. I am looking at this on a computer that is not my normal one, so it may just be the monitor adjustment, but the color combination looks like unfinished wood (yellow pine, to be specific). If this was your intent, it is a brilliant effort, but if you wished to portray gold (a hallmark feature of the Aztecs)perhaps the color could be tweaked just a little toward more shine. But I love the complexity and 3D feel of the piece; thanks so much for inviting me to take a look! With the bit of blue-gray at the top, my first impression was that was the sky and I am looking up at the face of a building, but it could also be an aerial view of a fortress, or an ornate carving on the top of a chest, perhaps. I see your tag “ruins”…How do you perceive it?
    Best, David

  • Thank you very much for your really great comment David. I am very happy with your opinion. Afterwards I realized that the Aztecs had and used a lot of gold, but it was not my intend to include gold in this work. I was thinking of the color of sandstone. But you are right, color control is difficult in Mandelbulb. To me it is a tough program, but I get more often results I really like. Another problem is that you get easily very grainy parts in your design. Perhaps other people can solve this problem, for me it takes a lot of efforts to get rid of them and sometimes I don’t succeed. Have a great weekend David and I look forward to your new artworks. You are making lots of progress.

I don’t know for sure if this will help with the grainy areas in Mandelbulb, but I have been using a great tip for this problem in Apo images. By saving the image in .png and then working with it in GIMP or PS, if you duplicate the layer with the image several times, you can intensify the colors and make the grainy areas more solid without spending days on the original renders. And this one is a beautiful sandstone; I should have known you could make gold if you wanted to ;o) D

  • That is a great tip David. I do have GIMP but for some reason I did not use it. Time to work with GIMP! In this work I have some grainy areas but, because of the acient feeling I accept it as an artistic effect. In other cases I will try GIMP
