DC Spring - the Jefferson Memorial by

The memorial for Thomas Jefferson in Washington, DC is a “copy” of the Pantheon in Rome. Jefferson was very fond of Neo-Classical architecture and built his home in Charlottesville, Virginia (Monticello) patterned after the Pantheon and other buildings in Rome and Greece. The Jefferson Memorial sits on the banks of the Potomac River (behind it) and on the Tidal Basin. Each Spring (for the last 100 years) the blooming cherry trees (a gift from Japan before WWI) create a beautiful site that draws residents and tourists alike.
