I saw death
I let it walk right past me, but
I knew it wasn’t coming at me
I looked right at it

I stood there at the edge of the abyss
I decided to turn around, but
I left some of me behind

I jump
I am falling forever
I walk away

I wrote this after a defining moment in my life
which changed the course of it and made me aware of my spiritual side for the first time
after which I was reborn, because life was never going to be the same again

Part of it was a conscious decision I had to make to stay in control, which is why
I started every verse with “I” and also why
I chose to make it my first published work

I wrote this in (early) 2007, more than 10 years after the event, originally in English.
