"Tree with parasite cluster - Honey Mushrooms" by

If you are a mushroom and fungai oficionado, you can tell me what this is.
Central Coast of California on a rural road, growing on the side of a tree. In the space of a week I returned to find the cluster that was made up of button looking brown mushrooms about 7 inches across when I first observed them had burst open, each mushroom open like the palm of a little hand and the colony had grown to 12 inches across!

I am a photographer and a writer. If you enjoy odd, short stories, I have a folder in my RB portfolio titled “Short Stories / Writing.”

Make sure to enter one of your images that were featured in January for the January Feature Challenge!

  • Thank you for the Features and the invitation to enter the challenge! I think I already did. Thank you for the encouragement! The only trouble is that there is also a beautiful entry that I want to vote for . . . and ITS NOT MINE!!

Something good about the challenges is you can change your entry as time goes on.

Very interesting find! Congrats on your feature!

  • Just a really odd thing – met a few mushroom lovers on RB who encouraged me and suddenly I started seeing mushrooms all over the place!!

Great find..you have a good eye. I would love to go mushroom hunting with you :)

  • A redbubble friend is into mushrooms so I started to look out for them to submit to Fungalicious. Before I’d got looking for truffles, I’d have to buy a boar! LOL.
We can shoot lots of cool stuff – I’ve scoped out few cool places – I wouldn’t mind company.
I teach a class Wednesday nights so may not be able to get to all the meetings – but will try to do the field trips, if I know when.
