Built as a monument to Freemasonry in Queensland and as a World War I memorial, the Masonic Temple is an exceptional example of an Australian Masonic Temple. The temple makes an importan contribution to the streetscape of Ann Street through the scale of its giant order Corinthian columns and its interiors, particularly the Grand Hall and the Court of Remembrance, are renowned for their grandeur. It is substantially intact both externally and internally and is held in high regard by the Masonic community.

The Grand Lodge Room, a large symmetrical open space with a vaulted coffered ceiling and stepped seating facing the centre, on the top floor seated 1100 people and was described in the Architecture and Building Journal in February 1928 as the ‘largest and finest of its kind in Australia’.

Whadda they call people like you? Archophiles or something? Anyway, I note that every detail in that image is perfect… all the angles, horizontals and verticals… nothing out of place. You’re a perfectionist, Mr Bullimore.

  • LOL I’ve been called many things Mr Kelly so archophile and perfectionist are two descriptions that I’ll gladly take on board :)

Love this image… beautiful symmetry and wonderful level of details. Very nice depiction of the Masonic Temple. Looks like a fascinating place to photograph and was wondering if you have more of the interior and the exterior. Many thanks for sharing. Hany
