Quench My Thirst, Inspire My Soul

Quench My Thirst, Inspire My Soul

The dry dusty terrain stretched before me, the end unseen. My tired feet, came up and went down. The dust danced as a hot wind occasionally slapped the day with fierceness. Why travel this path so relentlessly? Why not find shelter and rest? I am driven forever forward by thirst. Thirst so overpowering, it cannot be denied. Unquenchable? No, it can be quenched, but only for a time. As I travel, I find a stream, flowing crystal clear, and cold. Surrounded by such lush greenness, that I almost stop, and sit, but still I walk. Soon I come upon a pool, carved deep within the earth by centuries of wind and rain, it holds beckoning blue waters, and I’m sure it was filled by Tethys herself. But my soul did not speak, my heart was unmoved, so my thirst would not be quenched. Eventually, in my journey I come to a cliff, dotted with small spindly trees, their naked branches reaching desperately upward, roots holding tight in a never ending struggle to survive this world. I stop for a moment, unsure, and as I listen, I hear a whisper in my soul, feel a stir in the beat of my heart. I see it now, just a trickle, small and spindly, like the trees. But it sings a sweet low song as it falls from the face of the cliff, and I know my search is fulfilled. As I drink from this lazy flow, coming from deep within the earth. I am satisfied, my thirst is quenched, for a time.

Inspiration is different for each of us, some may drink from the pool, others from the trickle, but may we always stay thirsty for the beauty and wonders of this world.
