MOM! Can I Go Out And Play?

After reading John Hooton’s article lighting the head shot I decided to get back to some very basic lighting. One light, one shot, one killer image.
This was shot using window light 10 feet away.

I’ve visited John’s article and have printed it out … it will become part of my bible, lol!!!!! Thank you again … darling, darling, darling image!!!!!!! (I sooooo remember those days, by the way!!!!)

  • Von McKnelly replied

One never stops learning to control the light Lois. It’s like taking baby steps at first then one day you realize your running.
    John’s article woke me up a little reminding me to K I S S.

    Andy Mueller

You rock! Fantastic results from a simple and effective setup! Good job, Von!

  • Von McKnelly replied

What is it with the photo gods Andy? One day I shoot a teddy and everything goes according to plan and the very next day it all goes to shit. I couldn’t get the light right yesterday for all the virgins in New York…sad is me.

A great set up and proof of the pudding. You have emphasised a very important point – the light does not have to be artificial, daylight from a window is a great light source and was used by the old masters for centuries.

  • Von McKnelly replied

After reading your article I could not think of anything else but the masters of yesteryear painting with a single light source. I make frequent visits to the art museum and pay close attention to the use of light in the artwork…I think to myself “I can do that!”
Thanks again John for your insightful article.
