It’s all new to me Karl but I did just the other day started using SketchUp 7…a new learning curve. It’s the easy one but I would like to know how it all works.
Back to the drawing board with it…all I needed was a push in the right direction. Ever get stuck on something and knew it was right in front of you but couldn’t figure it out? Well you gave me the push with your comment. :-}
No sadly I haven’t been dreaming and the pad and paper next to my bed has gone unused. I just needed a hand today with the cleaning and look what I got! Silly hands didn’t lift a hand to help all day!
Funny you should mention nails. I’ve been growing my nails for a artsy B&W hand shot…how do women do it? Impossible to keep clean and typing is a royal pain in the backside!
Something has happen in the last few months with my work. Not sure what or how but I’ve definitely stepped outside the box from my normal style. (if there is such a thing as normal) Many thanks David I always appreciate you feedback.
I like the fact you used the word “unusual” Irene. Rarely occurring or appearing…Not usual or ordinary…Deviating from the customary…Far beyond what is usual, normal, or customary
My good friend John, who always says what he thinks, said this morning: “What’s the bloody awful tune you’re whistling?” Now being a perpetual whistler, singer and hummer, I’m rarely conscious of what tune is rattling through my brain. I re-whistled so I could listen to myself. I realised it was one of the Kinks lesser known tunes – Plastic Man. Must have dribbled into what passes as my brain after looking at this last night. “It’s that Von McKnelly’s fault,” I said. “Who?.” I brought him onto the house, fired up the machine and showed him. “Not bad,” he said. Coming from John that is one hell of a compliment. You have a new fan. Take care Meach
Plastic Man So John was he that bad at whistling that it brought you to tears? I hadn’t heard plastic man in some time…wow how time does fly. Thanks Meach and John for the tune I can’t get out of my head and for the “not bad”!
The possibilities are endless here….all hands on deck, hands on training, the arms race (been done before I know) on and on. I’m having fun with this…thanks Andy!
Your title on this one really pulls at my emotions. Just one hand to try to save all the others…in what looks to be a dark place that they can’t seem to get out of. Maybe one at a time they can be saved.
HAH!!!! Was clicking through Popular Wall Art and this amazing image caught my eye!!! Very moving!!!!! The hands look almost eerily real!!!! And the background wall … a stroke of genius!!! You’ve really got my imagination spinning, Von!!!!
It’s a good thing when an image can spin one’s imagination. I’m trying to create work that’s more than a “pretty picture”. Work that evokes emotions from the viewer is what I’m after. Thanks Lois your a peach!
Oh my goodness!! You left the lid off the well again !! Those poor girls!! Oh wait a minute! I just checked!! No nails were broken during the making of this brilliant image, so all is, well…........... well!! As you were! :-/
Karl Denton
Is that Vickies hand from Poser?
Really nice concept!
Von McKnelly replied

RavenSoul

Von McKnelly replied
Smile and a wink!
Mary Campbell
Such lovely hands, you must know some hand models.. (reminds me of the Steinfield show..)
Von McKnelly replied
I do know hand models and you should have see their expression when I told them they would have to leave the hands overnight…CHOP CHOP!
reflexio
Intriguing composition, is there some racial perspective and commentary to this, or was that accidental.
Von McKnelly replied
I leave the interpretation up to the viewer…but…I’ve yet to date included any sort of racial perspective in my work.
Catherine Veal
This is just so created Von. Really lovely work.x
Von McKnelly replied
Thanks CV and thanks again for your unknowing help with the earlier posting of the “table for one”.
TimHatcher

Von McKnelly replied
Thanks Tim I’ve been working on it all day…I need a nap.

Poser is a 3D realistic human figure application for animation and rendering.

This could come in handy – if ever there’s a plastic man around with something on his mind.
Great work as ever Von – or great play – whichever
Von McKnelly replied
Silly goose plastic men don’t have anything on their minds…as a matter of fact they don’t even have a mind.
Play play play play play…..
Karen Cougan
wow this is fabulous, well done Von

Von McKnelly replied
Some things come together and some are harder to get the way you want it….this work falls under the later. Hi Karen!

Shanina Conway
Cool work Von, nice hands too, love the smooth plastic effect….and the concept too;)
Sketchup…haven’t tried that…be interest to see what you get out of it.
Von McKnelly replied
I’m at the “scratches his head stage” with it but soon I’ll have green grass and blue sky worked out.
It ain’t easy getting that plastic on the hands look you know! lol
Shanina Conway
Hope for your sake the “scratches his head stage” doesn’t last long…it’s a killer on your nails and hair loss;)
Von McKnelly replied
Funny you should mention nails. I’ve been growing my nails for a artsy B&W hand shot…how do women do it? Impossible to keep clean and typing is a royal pain in the backside!
MarkezzAckui ...
Lots of meaning here…great work!
Von McKnelly replied
Thanks Markezz…it’s interesting hearing peoples interpretation of this work.
Jamaboop
Maybe the hands didn’t like the rate of pay for cleaning? Maybe they were on strike for better wages or benefits???
Von McKnelly replied
Are you saying I’m cheap? PHU (plastic hand union) can go ahead a strike I’ll use scabs….oh that sounds gross!
Tracey Mac
This could be an advertisment for hand creme Von…Rough to smoothe…
Love the concept…..great narrative…..and not just for hand creme :)
Von McKnelly replied
Excellent take with the hand cream Tracey…you have a sharp mind. :-}}
