Back in March 2009 I did a footpath patrol over Claife Heights between Hawkshead and Windermere in the English Lake District. It was always a lovely walk through the forested areas.I took some shots of a lovely glade including one version I called Forest of Dreams (done in an Orton effect). I went back in the August and shot the glade from a slightly different angle.I called this Heart Of The Forest Interestingly the latter got a Homepage Feature on my old RB account on 13th Sept 2009 and is my most viewed work whilst the former got a Homepage Feature on 21st May 2010 on the current account.
On a visit in April 2010, I found that they’d chopped down all the surrounding conifers. The different shots are below. On 5th November 2012 I did the same patrol route. The appearance of a deer fence somewhat threw me. Also the original footpath was very swampy in amongst the tree brash and difficult to walk on so I navigated my way along the fence. Having compared those shots with this,I can see I have taken this one from the same angle almost as Forest of Dreams, whilst The Broken Heart almost matches the Heart of the Forest. (I worked out that I had moved about 90 degrees)
It hasn’t improved much in the last two years. However those old trees seem to have survived and in 20 years or so,may be back in the heart of the forest.
