The Tail Of The Squirrel With Monkey Nuts by

Sounds like a rare condition. This is Sooty, one of the red squirrels that came to visit us in our holiday cottage in Rothiemurchus in the Cairngorm National Park,Scotland.
I was amused by his various antics, and he was particularly fond of monkey nuts, which he’d take from the lawn, and then bury not 10 yards away in the forest floor. The lovely Dorothy Thompson has a shot of another Scottish squirrel from the posh end of the country here in which she has a grey squirrel with a slightly red face also with a monkey nut.And here is Sooty, a red squirrel with a grey face..it’s a strange world.

Good looking nut. Our Reds never get that sooty look, at least not that I’ve seen. Guess I’ll have to send ’em up the chimbley (could chase them with those weird bagpipes).

  • Don’t mention chimbleys toRoy Massick’s missus,Heather

pssst – - um, Jamie, what is a monkey nut??? What a cutie!!!

    Jan

  • LOL..see what Dorothy below said, she’s worried I won’t tell you. Monkey nuts are peanuts (ground nuts). When they are left in their shells,we call them monkey nuts. The squirrels love breaking the shells open as there are usually 2 peanuts in each one.The critter above is shelling his nuts. That is one explanation. There is another, but we won’t dwell on it.

LOL Oh!!! OK – - we just call them peanuts! I buy them at the grocery for my little Spidey (and her relatives) in the shells. I’ve never heard of them called monkey nuts!! As for the other explanation …. enough said! ;-D >blows kiss and heads out to see if a hungry Spidey is on the porch<
