This is Sooty…so called because he was the darkest of the red squirrels that came to our holiday cottage garden in Rothiemurchus in the Scottish Cairngorms National Park, looking like he had just come down the chimney (or chimbley as we say in Cumbria).His trick was to spin on the bird feeders until it fell off the hanger.This was the result of one of his best efforts.You can see the top of the feeder behind him and a bountiful harvest of bird seeds on the ground.This delighted the birds but not him so much as he was really after the nuts…
