Closely related to the Swaledale , the very rare Cumbrian Wood Sheep can be found in only a few locations in the English Lake District. I saw these two at High Dam near Finsthwaite. They are secretive and elusory,(almost illusory) and use their skills to blend into the background, taking advantage of any natural cover. It is hard to spot, but there is one cunningly concealed behind that small larch sapling. It’s only natural predator is the Lesser-Spotted Cumbrian Fell Leopard, which is on the endangered list. The last time anyone reported seeing one was on the way home from a heavy session at the Anglers Arms,Haverthwaite.
