“I’m not a pheasant plucker
I’m the pheasant plucker’s mate
I’m only plucking pheasants.
cos the pheasant plucker’s late”
Walking back from an excursion to the fells above my home, the dog and I were minding our own business when a hen pheasant jumped out of the hedgerow in front of the dog (who was on her lead). It started pretending it had a bad wing to try and distract us..I guess it had a nest or young nearby. This fellow then jumped out behind the dog..it was very difficult with only one good arm,a demented dog and 2 maniacal pheasants to attempt a shot of the brouhaha..
Eventually, with the dog tied to a field gate,I managed to shoot off a load of shots, but this was the only one that came out half way decently as the birds would just not stand still.
We eventually called it a draw and withdrew.
I enjoy a brace of pheasant at Xmas, cooked in white wine and mushrooms and wrapped in bacon strips to keep them moist.
