I went for what was mostly a great walk yesterday 15th April 2010 around the vale of Esthwaite in the English Lake District National Park.
I wanted to see the place I took my most popular piece,The Heart of the Forest. As I came into the forest,a scene of utter devastation met me….

If trees gushed blood
When they were felled
By meddling man,
And crimson welled
From every gash
His axe can give,
Would he forbear,
And let them live?
(Mervyn Peake,Poet)

Wow…. so much destruction and for what?…At least you’ve preserved this so others can see what was lost.

  • Thanks Keith,it was such a magic place but the commercial value of the trees always meant it had a limited timespan…it opened up some amazing views but a bit of the magic was lost

  • It was a bit sad Tom,but that’s enterprise
