looking through the lens at a painting
Looking through the lens at a painting.
I’m not a Photographer, clear to see as I am still learning the basics on the technical side of it all.
I have been told by lecturers in the past that you just cannot mix fine art with photography or other disciplines. At this point I stood my ground. I neither was nor never have tried to claim that I am a photographer… in fact I don’t consider myself anything but a general artist. I will use what is available to me to produce a piece of work. I will let the work (to a point) dictate what is needed. And as long as the outcome is pleasing to the eye, then I have completed my task.
When I look through the lens, I see a “painting” just waiting to emerge. The colours, tones and forms, the composition.
Maybe this is what annoys some about my work.
But I smile to myself when I see the fine things other artists are now doing with mixing the mediums and through digital art and remember the huge arguments’ I once had!
A big fingers up to the “establishment”.
Art to me is more than just a discipline in one area, yes you can’t be good in all areas and I believe as an artist one must strive to be the best they can. This means developing their own skill. Yet does this mean that we have to close our eyes to other ways of working? I don’t think so.
