Never Good Enough

It’s never good enough for you, is it?
I’m always saying the wrong thing,
Or getting the wrong grades,
Or not trying hard enough…
I’m just tired of this.

You plan my future, like it’s your own.
If you want a life, why don’t you live yours?
Or better yet.
Take mine, right?
It’s yours anyway.
I don’t want it.

Do you remember when you use to sing?
That stupid song I hated.
“Let the sunshine in…”
God, you were so off pitch.
Don’t let her see you smile

It’s funny, because…
Even though I hated it…
I think I hate it more now you don’t sing.
I miss your pitchy happiness…
I miss your illiterate reading,
Of fairy tales I knew off by heart.

Those fairy tales were dependable…
Not like you… not like me.
We’re both misfits you know…
We’re the same.
Pathetic.

Don’t hang your head…
Not now.
We’ve come too far for that.
Don’t say you’re sorry.
You’re not.
Look at me when I speak to you.
I’m not good enough for you…. am I?

great words.. i understand how you feel..i always felt this way.
Now that i’m a Mom myself, i try my hardest to not let my kids feel this way.
If they do, i try to understand the reason behind it and squash it to million pieces.
I tell my kids , It’s hard enough to yourself in this world, let alone someone else. All that matters is that you at least TRY in life. If try, then you’ll have no regrets.
I hope you find your peace and happiness.

    I love this…..how true….nicely captivated!
I agree with Mari’s comment….I always understood my kid’s rebellion because I’d lived it before. I hope you can when you have your own kids, and smile, and let them be.

wow, this is really really good.
I know how you feel too, sometimes there is a lot of pressure to do things my parents wants me to do, not the things that I want to do. It sort of sucks and your writing made me realise that there are others out there who feel exactly the same.
Congrats on the feature too, it’s well deserved.
