Autumn in Walnut Grove
This is an old school house found in Boxley Valley along highway 21 in Arkansas. This area is known as the Upper Buffalo River Region. The first one-room log school house was built on this very spot in 1845. This school house was built in 1901 and was known as Walnut Grove school. The old church and a cemetery are still located here. The school house now serves as a Community building for Boxley Baptist Church. This is a lovely community with a rich history!
This building is on the National Register and the farmlands are federally protected. This is a beautiful area with pastoral scenes, Mountains, and river bottoms. If you ever have the opportunity, you should spend a week visiting all the small towns and cruisung the highways of the Buffalo Wilderness area. Sometimes you can see elk near the road. Most of the time they are far away from the road with over 70 elk in the area they move out closer to the Buffalo River. You can usually catch them early in the morning and early in the evening. I saw them last Friday evening, just a glimpse before we lost daylight. When we went back early the next morning they were not there. Look for a shot of them in my “Southern Charm” Album. A work in progress…Have a great month everyone! Lisa
