Cherub (Safe Version)
A work in reaction to censorship – in the art world (especially in Australia in recent weeks), movies, music and TV. If you don’t like it don’t look at it – give others a choice…
I chose a cherub because it is such a widely known image – from classical painting to water fountains. A naked little boy that no-one seems to have a problem with…
Having said that I am absolutely against child pornography, child abuse, violent non-consensual porn, and gratuitous sex and violence.

lol… over here in the U.S. its the same… and I agree with you, if you don’t like it don’t look at it… besides it is artistic nude… and i never understood that either with the cherubs… there are a few fountains over here with them posed as if urinating into the water… XD

“if you don’t like it don’t look at it”... well… I’m not sure that mass media is providing safety for those who don’t like looking at sexually posed naked babies or gratuitous violence… that’s the point … criminality is more important than someones art… the debate from my perspective was not so much centred on censorship so much as the fact that the ‘artist’ in question was places a VERY young hgirl in a situation that could encourage perversion and danger, it wasn’t even that it happened but it places a vulnerable human in a position of extreme and possible danger, too high a freakin risk to have some artist get the bloody ego stroked, I would think, but I guess that depends on the viewers level of concern or respect for the life and future of the minor… ABUSE is a BAD BAD thing (despite the movies best attempts to brainwash the masses into thinking that sexual perversion and violence is harmless play)...? It sucks… and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, especially as a result of some frivilous, entertaining (or not), bloody art exhibition…
this is why I am angry about it
These pedophile arse holes are everywhere in the society we are supposed to trust… the images were not just of a naked kid (which even on this site is completely illegal and referred to as kiddy porn and is removed as a priority)... there was more psychology to it than that… psychology that could have a negative effect on that girl…
I wonder, now with all the media, how her friends treat her… how the nasty boys at school talk to her, I hope the next time her girlfriends decide to get bitchy to her for a couple of days that they didn’t take images on their mobile phone that they could photoshop and distribute on MySpace…
Never mind… I guess there is nothing to worry about… I am a fool to lose sleep at night for the safety of one young woman, who at her age could not even comprehend the depths of evil that there is in this world.
Alas, I am merely the mother wrapping you over the knuckles and spoiling all the fun… sorry about that…
Just my opinion… thanks for the space.

and it isn’t artistic nude when there is a provocative element… it’s kiddy porn and illegal… why is it illegal… ??? there are good freakin reasons for protective laws, why are un-psychologically and un-criminally educated artists allow to throw little temper tanties because their idea wasn’t as good as they thought it was and their ego got bent and challenge all the pain and suffering and place people in situations of personal moral danger for entertainment… you can make the point he was trying to push in a million and goziliion other ways… why go with the most demeaning and the shocking… hmmm… to get attention perhaps… don’t know…

Thanks for the comments Kathleen. I am fully against child pornography (still amazes me how many are there – that actually get caught. Apparently they’ve arrested 90 people now.) Disgusting. I am against gratuitous sex, unconsenting sex, and violence also. I should have clarified that in the description.
It interesting that the ‘artist’ referred to here will be able to continue exhibiting his work as it has been deemed not to be illegal by the Classification Board. So if they are now legal (complete with a PG rating) it is down to people’s opinions on the validity of the work and their choice whether they view this work or not.
