Litty's Special Day
This is still a work in progress. Have not done much editing.
Litty's Special Day belongs to the following groups:
Fantasy Art, Rural Around The Globe, Short stories - Spherical Scriptings, United States and WMGOnce upon a time (because that is how all good stories start) there lived a little girl named Litty. Litty’s real name was LeticiaAnne but since that was much too long and too hard to say everyone called her Litty. Litty was 7 years old and she was a very special little girl, everyone said so. Her mommy and daddy thought she was special. They always said, “Our Litty is so special… We have such a wonderful special little girl.” Her Grandma and PopPop thought she was special. “How’s our special little girl today?” And even Granny GoGo who was Litty’s great-grandmother told all her friends and even some strangers about her special great granddaughter. Litty was not sure what was so special about her, she thought about it a lot but really could not figure it out. Amazingly this was the day she was going to find out.
It was a very hot day outside and Litty decided she was going to play with Max her cat. But Max seemed to think that it was too hot and just laid there on the back porch, which is a wonderful place to lay down when it is too hot to play. So Litty laid next to Max and it was very quiet.
All of a sudden Litty heard somebody say, “Scratch Belly now”. Litty looked around but all she saw was Max. She looked at Max and again she heard, “Scratch Belly now.”
So Litty said, “Max you want me to scratch your belly?”
“ Scratch Belly Now” So Litty did and Max started to purr. Litty realized after thinking and scratching a bit that when Max said scratch belly now he was still meowing. But she could suddenly understand what he was saying. And the purrrrr of Max said “ooooooh happy, happy happy, happy!”
Litty thought this was a bit weird that she could understand Max. And as she lay there thinking about it (she liked to think about things) she heard a bird singing. And at first all she heard was “teep tut tut tut” “teep tut tut tut”. She looked around and saw a Robin in the big tree covered with pink flowers in the back yard. I wonder why I can’t understand him, maybe if I try harder I can. So she stared at the Robin and all of a sudden his song was, “ I am a Robin, a beautiful Robin red breast, I am a Robin, a beautiful red crested robin.” Which to Litty seemed very Robiny and what a Robin would sing. Hmmm this is very strange but special I think, Litty thought to herself.
I better try with one more animal just to make sure they are really talking to me. She called the family dog, Beans the beagle. “Bean’s Come here girl! Beans, puppy, come here” and Beans came running like she always did and started barking happily. At first Litty again only heard “bark bark ruff ruff yip yip bark bark ruff ruff yop”.
But as Litty listened a little more to Beans she began to understand: “Are we going out, out I want to go out. Litty says Come, usually means out, lets go out.” Litty never knew that Beans was so talkative or so hyper. So as she laughed and said, “Yes Beans Come does mean you can go out”, she let her out the back door. Beans woke up Max as he ran by and scared the robin away with his yips of “I Am Out!”
Litty ran to talk to her Mummy and Daddy, but Mummy was very busy cooking dinner and Daddy was mowing the lawn. Litty thought if I wanted to talk they would stop and listen but I better not let them know about the talking animals yet, I better think about this a bit more. She thought about it until bedtime and decided that maybe since she was going to visit her aunt and uncle tomorrow, she would see if it happened at their house and then maybe tell them.
Litty called her Uncle Jim, Uncle Moose and her Auntie Stacey; Auntie Moose, no one knows why but that was their names. They called her Cricket because she used to and still loves to jump and jump and jump. She LOVED visiting Auntie and Uncle Moose. They always had fun. They were going to the park on Saturday and fun of fun things CC on Sunday. CC was what they called it ever since Litty could remember but the real name of the funnest of fun places was See the Sea. And she was going to sleepover, how fun is that!
Litty thought that Uncle Moose might be a good person to tell about the talking animals since he always says that stuffed animals can talk. Litty thought this was kind-of silly but Uncle Moose said such funny things that she always ended up laughing until her stomach hurt. He would tell her that Woodrow Auntie Moose’s favorite teddy bear was saying, “Hello Litty come play—it is beary nice to see you! Let’s eat candy.” Which always made Litty laugh and laugh. Uncle Moose even said that the stuffed animals at night would raid the candy jar. Litty had not caught them yet but she kept trying.
Anyway back to our story. Uncle and Auntie Moose and Litty loved to go to their favorite park and play and play. It had a swing set, a jungle gym, lots of trees, a nice field of flowers, grass to play on and a very pretty lake. Litty was sitting under a tree resting after having had a great time swinging with Auntie Moose when she noticed a dog and a duck. The dog was barking and the duck was quacking very loud. The dog who was a hound dog was lying in the shade under a bush near the edge of the lake. And the duck was standing in front of the dog. At first all Litty heard was “Quack” “Ruff” “Quack Quack Quack” “Ruff”…Hmm I’ll try and listen really hard and see if I can understand them and after a no time at all she could.
The duck was saying, “Could you move please?”
And the hound dog was lazily saying, “What?”
“Could you please move? You are blocking my way to the pond,” said the duck.
“What What What,” said the hound.
Then another duck waddled over and said, “ Hey, Gurgle what’s the problem?”
And Gurgle the duck said: “Hey Lurgle I have asked several times for this dog to move and all he keeps saying is ruff.”
“What” said the hound dog.
So Lurgle said, “ Hey dog move please!”
“What” said the dog now half asleep even with two ducks quacking at him.
“Move don’t you understand move”, said Gurgle.
“I guess he doesn’t hear well”, said Lurgle.
“Lets try it louder”, said Gurgle.
“What?” again said the sleepy dog.
So at the top of their ducky voices they said very politely though loudly, “Could you please move so we may swim in the pond.”
Uncle and Auntie Moose came over to Litty laughing saying. “I wonder what is going on between those ducks and the dog?”
Litty giggled and said, “The ducks are asking him to move and the dog keeps saying what.”
“ That is what it looks like doesn’t it”, said Auntie and Uncle Moose at the same time, “Jinx” they said and then they all laughed.
Finally a third duck came over and said to the other two, “just go around to the other side of him you silly loud ducks!”
“Oh” said Lurgle and Gurgle.
“What?” said the hound dog and fell asleep.
Litty laughed and laughed and thought I wonder if the 3rd duck’s name also ended in urgle. Which made her laugh even more. Then she realized after thinking a bit that ducks like Lurgle and Gurgle can only understand ducks, the hound dog could not understand the ducks but probably could understand other dogs and she could understand them all no matter what type of animal! “This is very interesting!” said Litty.
Uncle Moose then called last one to the slide is a creepy crawly (Uncle Moose always said silly things) and off Litty, Uncle and Auntie Moose went to play on the slides. They played and played until Uncle Moose said, “I am to tired to even walk home Litty will just have to carry me.”
“Oh Uncle Moose you say the silliest things!” And they all walked home hand in hand.
The next day was the fun day of fun days! They were going to CC, (now remember that is really See the Sea!) Litty thought it was one of the happiest places in the world. On the way there in the car she wondered if she would be able to understand the penguins or the seals or OH MY GOODNESS her favorite animal in the whole world, dolphins. I must remember to try and listen very carefully; this might be an extra special fun day of fun days!
When they got there they saw that the first show was the seal and walrus show. Since that was Uncle Moose’s favorite besides seeing the Beluga whales they decided to go. They took their seats and at the very beginning of the show a seal came out on to the stage.
And then they heard an announcer say, “Where’s Selena? Has any one seen Selena its time for the show to start.” And everyone in the audience was laughing because Selena was already on stage making noises at the audience, which kind of sounded like grunts and hisses. Only Litty knew that Selena was saying, “Hello I am Selena. Shh! Don’t tell Matt I’m here. Hope you enjoy the show!” Selena went to hide behind a ball.
Then a man ran on the stage and said, “Hi, I’m Matt, has anyone seen Selena my seal? Its time for the show to start.”
Several kids in the audience yelled “look behind the ball, she is behind the ball.” Matt ran to the ball and all though the audience heard Selena make a loud grunt Litty heard, “Surprise I got you again!” Matt jumped back and everyone laughed.
The show was very fun to watch and Litty liked it even more because she could understand what the seals and walruses said. The walruses spoke very slow and seemed very majestic and mainly said, “Nooo I won’t, Yessss I want to swim, and Maybeeeee I will play.”
There was also Sam the Sea Lion who was pretty quiet. He was young and had just started being in the show.
After awhile he said, “Hey, they are laughing, this is fun!”
By the end of his part of the show Sam was saying,
“I’m going to be a suuuuuuperstar! Where’s my fish???”
Of course the audience only heard Sam barking but Litty knew that he was saying and thought she would fall off her chair from laughing at his silliness!
The next place they went to was the penguin house after spending several minutes looking at the Beluga whales with Uncle Moose. Did you know he loves Beluga whales? It was very loud in the penguin house. Litty thought lets see, I’ll …but before she even had the chance to try she heard,
“Get out of my way—-I’m diving”
“Whee slide”
“OOOH Cold water feels good”
“Shake Shake Shake”
“I’m king of the mountain” (Lots of laughter since they were emperor penguins)
“Slip Slide into the water”
“Whoo Hoo” (Lots of that)
“Look those funny things are lookin at us!”
Litty finally decided I don’t think I’ll try and understand anymore this is too noisy. So she and Auntie and Uncle Moose just looked and laughed at the crazy, loud penguins.
“Whew” said Uncle Moose, “what a ruckus! Those penguins are so loud! Let’s go see the Beluga whale again.” But Litty and Auntie Moose groaned so he said, “Ok I need a snack. Who wants French fries? I know Auntie Moose does, she ALWAYS does!” They all raced to the cart and got freshly made fries.
“I love love French Fries,” cried Auntie Moose!
“So yummy”, said Litty and wondered could today get any funner?
The last show of the day was the dolphin show and they all agreed (Litty, Uncle Moose and Auntie Moose in case you forgot) to go see it as a last treat. Of course they had to go since it was Litty and Auntie Moose’s favorite animal in the whole world! At first Litty was disappointed because all she heard was the squeaking gibbering noise dolphins make, but she thought I am so excited maybe I am not listening the right way. All of a sudden while the dolphins were doing their flips in the air she heard one say, “WHEEEEEEEE! I like this, this is fun!”
While the other was saying “Oh my goodness Oh my goodness I don’t like this at all! I am getting dizzy!” And of course Litty started laughing.
“That was soooo cool wasn’t it Litty? I love dolphins!” said Auntie Moose bouncing up and down on her seat. Litty got so excited again she forgot to pay attention to what they were saying and just enjoyed watching the dolphins do some more amazing things!
But at the very end of the show something super duper happened. Vicky who was the host of the show said,“Could I have a volunteer from the audience to help me with the big finish?”
Litty raised her hand very high and she got picked!! She could not believe it she always wanted to be the one picked and this time it was her, Litty! Auntie and Uncle Moose clapped very loud and said Go Cricket!!!!!!!!
Litty walked (trying not to run) down to were Vicky and the dolphins Zitzi and Mimzy were waiting. When she got there Vicky asked her her name and she said its Litty.
“Zitzi and Mimzy, this is Litty,” said Vicky with a smile.
Zitzi and Mimzy bobbed their heads and then let Litty pet them. Which was so coooooool!
Vicky said, “Ok Litty I am going to let you give the command to start the big finish are you ready??”
“Yes!” said Litty so excited!
“Ready Zitzi?”
“Ready!” said Zitzi
“Ready Mimzy?”
“Oh my goodness Ready”, said Mimzy (of course only Litty understood the ready and the oh my goodness)
“Ok Litty,” said Vicky, “First you blow this whistle, then raise your right hand, blow the whistle twice and let your hand fall. And off the dolphins will go. Ready?”
“Ready!” said Litty
As Litty blew the whistle once and raised her hand, she heard Zitzi say to Mimzy “Lets do the big finish extra specially good for Litty, she is a special girl.”
Litty smiled and blew the whistle twice and let her hand fall and off the dolphins went. They did flips and jumps (Mimzy the whole time saying “oh my goodness”) and swam very fast underwater, landed on the platform splashed Litty a bit and then gave her a kiss. Everyone applauded and Litty heard a Yea Cricket Rah Rah RAH from the stands!
Vicky said: “Thank you Litty for such a good job!”
“Thank you”, said Zitzi and Mimzy.
Litty said thank you to them all! Wasn’t that nice of them! Litty ran back up to Auntie and Uncle Moose with a smile as big as all the oceans put together.
“What a super duper extra specially great fantastic day!” said Litty in the car, again at Auntie and Uncle Moose’s house during dinner and as soon as Mommy and Daddy came to pick her up she said it again. “We had so many adventures; today was the funnest of fun days!” She told Mummy and Papa all about CC and all the fun Auntie and Uncle Moose and she had on the way home.
But Litty thought that maybe she would keep the secret for a while that something special had happened, that the animals were talking and she could understand them. And since during summer vacation she was going to visit her friend Sofia, who lives on a farm, she would see if she could maybe understand the animals there too, maybe a chicken or a cow or a even pig now that would be fun! What an exciting world thought Litty. I think I will think about all this some more. And then as she was falling asleep she heard one final.. Thanks for scratching my belly, goodnight Litty.

What a lovely tale. Told in a little girl way (which is what I’m assuming you were aiming for!). Sweet, innocent, adventurous. Maybe this could be split into two chapters? Other than that – cool writing!
