Sony Cyber Shot DSC H3
Nov. 2010
Benezette Pennsylvania

My husband Carl and I rode up to Benezette which is elk country yesterday. We were told that old Fred was seen in the village just sleeping. Fred has exceeded his normal years for an elk, as he is 17. These antlers grow each year and get up to 40lbs which is about 1/2 ton of pressure on their skull! No wonder old Fred is so tired. But he continued to just lay there as we walked up to him fairly close. They are an amazing animal.

It is my hope to always bring out something good and positive in all that I do! Despite our outward differences of faith, religion, culture, or even global location, one thing we all as humans embrace is a sense of acceptance, and belonging. Our art is an expression of who we are and a language that needs no words. It is my hope that my work depicts all that is loving and positive in which to edify others. I give all my thanks to my God who has uniquely and wonderfully created us in His image.

Poor Fred, I hope you brought him some oats or cow cake. Nice image.

  • No, I didn’t bring Fred anything, they are wild animals and shouldn’t be approached, but I’m sure he was just enjoying the beautiful day in the sun! Thanks for looking!

What a wonderful capture! We just spent some time in Yellowstone, and saw many elk and bison, so close you could almost reach out and touch them. But you are right….they’re wild animals, and should not be approached. Every year we read about someone being injured or killed because they refused to follow the rules.

  • He let us know when we got too close and if you don’t pay attention to their body language, well then it’s only your fault, they tried to warn ya! I am content to stand back and admire their beauty. Thanks!
