“Seriously, your feet do stink!!”

Saw these two adorable piglets side by side sleeping at the fair last year. They were so cute, who could resist this shot? Not even the flies bothered their peaceful slumber.

Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.
Dedicated to the adorable baby animals.

It is my hope to always bring out something good and positive in all that I do! Despite our outward differences of faith, religion, culture, or even global location, one thing we all as humans embrace is a sense of acceptance, and belonging. Our art is an expression of who we are and a language that needs no words. It is my hope that my work depicts all that is loving and positive in which to edify others. I give all my thanks to my God who has uniquely and wonderfully created us in His image.

Folks – Meet your bacon. Pregnant pigs can be kept for their entire 4 month pregnancy in a tiny metal stall not much bigger than the size of their bodies. Nursing mothers are similarly confined. Unable to interact with their babies they watch helplessly as their piglets have their tails cut off and teeth clipped without pain relief. Male piglets are castrated without anaesthetic. The ability of these intelligent and sensitive animals to suffer is no different to the family dog. Despite this, consecutive governments have provided legal exceptions to pig farmers to prevent them from being prosecuted for animal cruelty so that they can maximize their profits. She is allowed to ‘live’ for as long as her body can physically endure the demands of being kept continually pregnant and confined, standing with minimal movement on a hard floor. Female pigs in factory farms are treated as breeding machines. They endure a cycle of suffering and deprivation. Their behavioural, mental and emotional needs are irrelevant. Exercise is not allowed. Space means money. They exist to create profit. It is these animals that produce the piglets destined to become bacon, ham and pork products. Most sows are confined for at least some of their 16 week pregnancy in tiny metal individual stalls, (and one third for the entire pregnancy!) so small they are unable to turn around. At best they can take a small step forward. They have no bedding. They are forced to stand or lie on hard floors. These ‘sow stalls’ as the industry calls them have been banned in Britain for welfare reasons and are being phased out in the European Union.

  • Wow, that’s a horrible thought. It’s hard to believe how much animal cruelty goes on in the world like the Japanese that bludgeon the dolphins when they come in and the baby seals for their fur. I prefer to think of the happy pigs I see that are privately owned and happy. It’s all so very sad. There is just so much cruelty and ugliness around us for sure. Thanks for this bit of info.
