Apophysis 7x 15b, with lighting in Photoshop cs5. – 147 views as of 12/02/13
Inspired by the 3D Julian Gemstone Tutorial by Fiery Fire of DA.
Fire opals are the only transparent to translucent opals with warm body colours of yellow, orange, orange-yellow to red. Fire opals are best viewed in daylight. The finest fire opals come from Mexico and are also known as Mexican Opals or Sun Opals.
Opals are amorphous hydrated forms of silica, a mineraloid form, but not a mineral, 3% to 21% of the total weight is water. This makes them the most delicate of gemstones. If an opal is allowed to dry out it will crack and fade. They are best suited for earrings, brooches and pendants, rather than rings.
They are believed to help with depression and help the wearer to find true and real love. Opal is the birthstone for October.

Wow Jacqui, it almost looks like tiny people, dressed in blue, pulling out the bottom and more people, dressed in purple, holding up the centerpiece. Quite amazing!
