Rock Samphire

post work in Photoshop cs5

Thank you to Fiery Fire for the tutorial Splits Cylinder tuto from which this image was created.
Last Saturday David, Oscar and myself went for a nice long walk to Seacombe. Seacombe was an old cliff top quarry, long deserted. The Isle of Purbeck is famous for it’s stone. Growing on the cliffs we found Rock Samphire. Samphire is a delicious accompliment to fish. We picked ourselves some, returned home, had a dip in the hot tube to get rid of the stiffness in the old bones, then cooked supper of seabream fillets with samphire and mushrooms. It was delicious, samphire has a unique taste, you cook it like asparagas, then serve with a little butter melted on top. Nice to forage for one’s supper!

Thanks for sharing that most interesting story, Jacqui, about a most unique herb. Your image does indeed resemble the real plant – shame it doesn’t come to us with taste :o))). Best, David

  • thanks David for your comment, and for the picture. I think this maybe marsh samphire, which is also eaten. This one is more common than the rock samphire, at least here in UK. I did take some photographs, will try to post them when I get back from work, covering someone’s shift today! :-)
