After a long absence from creativity I took up painting again several years ago. I paint imagined, fragmented landscapes, from memories, dreams, themes and ideas that have emerged from growing up in a dying post industrial milltown in East Lancashire. There are two distinct branches to my work so far. The first series entitled ‘Landscapes of the Mind’ are very stylised, using cubist methodology to depict jarring memories of the claustrophobic back to back terraced streets of my childhood. Most of these have been acquired by private collectors, with only a few remaining. The second collection called ‘Visual Echoes’, attempt to resurrect fading memories and often deal with feeling and themes from my past. These paintings are much more fluid and expressionist, from semi abstract to quite detailed visions of the towns and countryside of my imagination.
I became a full time professional artist in 2008 to meet demand for my work. I work from my studio in Oxfordshire where I now live. You can see more work at www.victoriastanwayart.com
