Oil. 48 × 54cm. 2006

This painting was done after taking many photographs of people waiting at bus stops. I made a collage from the photographs, arranging and rearranging until I was happy with the composition. What struck me about all of the faces was that they had the same resigned expression, even the young girl!

Vicky live and works in Edinburgh as a full-time artist. She lives with her husband, two daughters, two cats and a big old hound

amazing work vicky . . . you’ve captured their expressions to perfection . . . i find the same expressions on the faces of the people i see at my tram stop . . . perhaps heading off to jobs they’d rather not be doing & daydreaming of being artists or dancers or princesses . . .
your paintings are so easy to fall in love with sweetie

They most prob have that ‘resigned’ expression as the bus is late as per usual and then two buses come along together. I like those little chubby fingers on the hand of the toddler. A great window on everyday life Vix…beautifully painted ~ Anni

  • Hi Anni, So true about the buses! Today I got a bus through the town…I was heading towards a new mega Hobbycraft store on the other side of town…half way there and 40 minutes into the journey, a bolt fell off the bus door and we all had to get off! I thought bugger this, crossed the road and got a bus home and had two cups of coffee. Some days just don’t start out right at all! vix
