I travelled outback Queensland’s Channel country and the tree trunks looked … and feel like rock.
Went via one station where we opened and closed gates for hours, finally got to the front gate and the sign stated the station was 1million hectacres.
I know that feeling about the gates… my first experience at Collinsville/Mt Coolon was like that! Arriving at 2am and I had no idea where I was…. and so many bloody gates! We don’t have that many in central nsw! And I always like to know where I am and I do use the sun and shadows as a compass – bit hard to at 2am!!! Especially in a slow truck! And after you thought you had been abandoned at Mackay airport (back in the days when it was a shed and use to actually close!) and I had never been up north until that day!!! And knew no-one bar the person supposedly picking me up… and they only contacted the head station once a week via the radio… (are you having a bit of a chuckle there Joe!! I hope so!!)
