Southern Ocean Storm © Vicki Ferrari by

Southern Ocean Storm © Vicki Ferrari Photography

This would have to be one of my favourite photographs! It was taken looking east, over the Pacific Ocean, from Emu Park, Queensland, Australia. The Southern Cross, and the two pointers, are visible on the right hand side. The two bright lights on the ocean are ship lights. And there is lightning (bonus!) breaking through the storm clouds on the left.
My friend (who was with me at the time of shooting and wore only shorts and a singlet) and I were eventually dropped back home by the multitude of huge mosquitos that were very prevalent that night! There might have been more photos, if the mozzies had not been so bad! My very patient friend did take them for quite a while before he said “that’s it! we are going!”. I was wearing jeans and a long sleeved shirt and even I was being attacked!! If I had to dedicate this photograph to anyone, it would be Jonesy! For his patience!!

SOUTHERN OCEAN STORM is going to be one of my favorite places, too. It’s powerful, yet serene and silent except for some rumbles from the electric storm all those miles away, and the occasionall whisp of diesel-engine noise from the closer ship when the wind gusts onshore.
I’d love to paint this on my bedroom wall. Or any wall, for that matter!
Thanks for bringing it to the group and to RB for us.

  • You have blown me away, Dayonda! I have never received such a long comment before! Thank you for your wonderful words and for the time taken in putting these groups here! And yes, I will have a go at these groups and then I will lots of work on my memory skills so I can remember what I have done! The Southern Cross is an beautiful sight – an amazing tool that can twist and spin, depending on the season, that you can always navigate with – amazing really! Thanks for all your work here and it is lovely to meet you and hope to see you around the traps! Vicki :))
