Mars Bar has been an East Village icon since the late 1980s. It’s the very definition of a dive bar but it’s the community’s beloved dive bar and it’s one of the last of its kind in a neighborhood that is changing at the speed of light.
It closed in July of 2011. In its place will rise a 12 story, 60 unit apartment building.
