Mars Bar - New York City by Vivienne Gucwa

Currently unavailable for purchase

Mars Bar Interior.

East Village, New York City.

Mars Bar has been an East Village icon since the late 1980s. It’s the very definition of a dive bar but it’s the community’s beloved dive bar and it’s one of the last of its kind in a neighborhood that is changing at the speed of light.

It closed in July of 2011. In its place will rise a 12 story, 60 unit apartment building.

Read about Mars Bar in a photo-essay I wrote about it earlier this year:

A Look Inside Mars Bar – the EV’s Legendary Dive Bar

nice capture! That’s too bad they closed down. A lot of artist used to hang out there! I went there just before they closed down.
