Artist's Description

Pangong Tso (Lake) in Ladakh

Pangong Tso is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft). It is 134 km (83 mi) long and extends from India to Tibet. 60% of the length of the lake lies in China.

It’s a saltwater lake. Formed when the Indian landmass crashed into Asia millions of years ago and so formed the Himalayas with the force of the collision and a few salt water lakes of trapped sea-water. The lake manages to retain it’s salinity through a balance of evaporation even after all this time.

I’m not completely sure what causes it’s amazing colour – but they are completely unreal!
