How small we are.

My ‘home’ along the banks of the Pangong Tso (Lake) in Ladakh as well as my ‘home’ the Milky Way :-)

I am extremely grateful for Mel’s write up on one of her Milky Way shots that allowed me to take this (my first ever) shot of the Milky Way. I was walking back from the dinner tent and was marvelling at the sheer number of stars visible up on this moonless night at 4500 meters above sea-level when I noticed what looked to be clouds …. and then I had this big Aha moment when I realised I was staring the Milky Way in it’s face (having seen Mel’s pic a few weeks earlier helped). Desperately trying to remember what settings were used, I remembered this one sentence “Pump up the ISO” … turns out that was part of the sentence and I didn’t remember the “30secs and wide open aperture” bit ….. so I did get a bit of star trail movement here which wasn’t apparent while chimping at close to freezing. Anyway – I was really pleased as punch to get this shot :-)
