“Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it, a jealous possessive love that grabs at what it can.”
— Yann Martel (Life of Pi)
Ayyanakere Lake in the Chikmagalur district, India. This beautiful spot is a man-made lake built in the 12th century by a local king.
As the primary livelihood of people here is agriculture, they depend on Ayyanakere to irrigate their fields. Infact even today the lake feeds 22 villages in the surrounding area.
I reached this spot only mid-morning and was REAL glad I didn’t reach here for sunrise as I’d planned to as I got there to find a rescue mission in action at one end of the lake (near the falls I’d planned to shoot). Sadly the mission was too late and a young man had drowned …. I left shortly.
