Feeling more than a little frustrated at not being able to get any shooting time over the past few weeks and also not having been able to test drive my new Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 – I was saved by a call from fellow Bubbler Dinni suggesting we explore some of the areas just outside the city we live in…

This is taken at a dawn shoot at one of the many lakes that surround Bangalore – it’s called Byramangala Lake. It’s off the beaten track and so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Unfortunately the lake seemed to be infested by water Hyacinth – but sunrise was still briefly spectacular. Hope to get there once we the hot weather gives way to rains.

Taken from the exact same spot as Birds over dawn – that was taken at 200mm and this one at 10mm.

Nikon D80
Sigma 10-20 @ 10mm (not the 80-200 just yet)
f/11 at 1.5 secs
Formatt 3 stop Grad ND.
Teased a bit more texture out of the sky in PS.

Nice capture Vikram…I’d be interested to know how you like the Nikkor 80-200!

    Debra

  • Thanks Debra.
LOVE that lens. It’s not the AF-S version. It’s the AF-D version (which is fine for me as I don’t shoot sports or wildlife). I’m amazed at how sharp it is and how great the bokeh is. I also won’t need to spend money on gym membership ….. that lens is 1.3 Kg and feels it after a bit of walking!!

Amazing colours and lovely composition, Vikram! That bit of greenrery on the lake makes even more interesting! :-)

  • Thank you so much Johanne … had to pull some colour in PP but it’s pretty much exactly how I saw it (without the perspective the 10mm has given it).

Happy to see the Sigma doing it’s wide angle trick again. And a WOW to the 80-200 Nikkor F2.8! That must be a feast to work with! My Sigma 80-200 weighs about the gym. Let’s do the math: quitting the membership at the gym saves … about the money you need to purchase the glass ;-)

  • Yeah – me and my UWA are kinda married and it’s weird shooting at the 80-200 focal length as I’m still not used to how far away I actually need to be … with the Sigma, I kinda know exactly how close I need to be.
