Still running .. since 1899 by Vikram Franklin

Yes – twice a day – across a 46 Km route that has 30-40 degree inclines.

This Locomotive is the “Ooty Toy Train” – that starts off in the plains. Soon after is an impressive 21 km section through truly rocky terrain. The track passes over 26 viaducts, and twists and bends through 13 tunnels. After a steep climb, the train enters Coonoor, the little hill station known for its tea plantations. From here, the track is uphill till you reach Fern Hill at a height of 2,218m, the highest point on the railroad.

These little steam-locomotives are still running.

Wow! Unbelievable that it survived and is still running after all these years, but also unbelievable treatment. I was convinced that this was an old faded postcard of a bygone era! Do tell!!!! I love the composition and feel to this.

  • Thanks George!! 46 Km takes 4.5 hours though – LOL!! But totally worth it as it goes through the most amazing scenic route.

The PP – thanks!! – was a LOT of messing around after applying an action I got from atncentral.

WOW… I thought the same thing as George… Awesome Work Vikram…

    (which actions would do that?)

  • :-)) – If I can make the master of PP think it was what I wanted it to really look like – I know it must really be working!!
I got the action from atncentral (I think – it’s my main source) and then really got into messing with it till I got what I want. The border I added later to give it the real old look.

Love the vintage effect you did. Perfect for the subject.

  • Thanks Ray – that’s what I thought – old subject and so should have an old look (also the sky wasn’t very interesting here – LOL!!)

Wow this is the Little Engine that most definitely could Vikram!! Wonderful image, I particularly love the little bit of reflection in the puddle and the treatment is superb! Wonderful story to accompany it also :)) Well done my friend :))

  • Thank you so much Simone!! I usually work on just curves/levels (quite a bit) and then unsharp mask and maybe an adjustment layer when required. This was a something I really needed to work on – and I’m really chuffed with the result!

  • Thanks Vicki! This is a wonderful little train – the most beautiful scenery it passes through. I chose to enjoy the view and didn’t click too many!

  • Thank you so much H! I’m usually a curves, and unsharp mask guy only – this was a huge challenge for me! Really glad you like the end result!
