Apologies to the vegetarians out there.

Trying out the VR on my new walk-about lens (Tamron 28-300 VC), and I have to say it works well – really well!

Nikon D80
Tamron 28-300 VC
120mm; 1/6 sec; f/6.3 (no tripod – just held my breath for a second).
Contrary to some reviews, it didn’t have too much trouble focussing in this bad light at f/6.3.

Taken at a wholesale market in Bangalore (Russel Market, Bangalore, India) – this market supplies all the smaller (and larger) shops all over Bangalore.

Will head back to this place with my normal gear sometime soon.

Glad you prefaced this with an apology to vegetarians……….. seems even the guy in the shot can’t look at them either!!! LOL!!
Great capture tho’….. nice mood here too….nice that your new lens worked for you here.

  • Thanks Wendi – think I should put it out with the filter on?

Dude….I ain’t vegetarian, but I am now considering it after looking at this….hahaha! (what is it by the way?) Anyway, very cool shot and glad the new lens is working out for you so nicely. Don’t you just LOVE VR?!

  • Hmm…. you’re lucky photography is a 2-dimensional media!! The smell . ….. LOL!
I was walking past this place to get to the whole-sale fish-market (luckily had my camera with me – started using your advice!!), and saw this dimly lit area with dozens of mutton stalls and popped in to clicked a few to see how the VR worked.

This is fantastic!! how cool is the dead animal repetition… lol – brilliant lighting, perfect composition, awesome work!

  • Thanks – glad you find it cool. Was afraid some would get repulsed.
It’s almost like the butcher himself can’t stand the sight and has his head turned away.

Great shot! The butcher looking away from his own produce… couldn’t be better. 1/6th of a second is really good at 120mm. My Sony A700 has got steady shot in the body and it does magic in these kind of lighting conditions! Enjoy the new VR lens!

  • Thanks Peter. He was actually talking to a friend, but I framed it in a way that it appeared he couldn’t stand the sight of his produce.
I envy all you Sony/Minolta and Olympus shooters – though probably not enough to change systems away from Nikon – LOL!

Excellent result! Now, I’m even more unsure about what to buy! LOL!

  • Hey – VR or no VR – I’m going back there with my 50mm f/1.8 as I KNOW that works best in low lighting without any shake ever.
Though the 120-400 Sigma with VR might just do the trick for you…. is it possible for you rent it and try?

I love the composition of this Vikram!! Very clever, to make the butcher seem put off my his produce!! I’m not keen on seeing dead animals, but then I’m not a vegetarian either!

  • Thanks Ursula – he really does look put off, doesn’t he? Still not sure this pic should be up without a safe filter – but I’ve asked a few vegans on here and they don’t seem to mind.

Very strong image !!! The killer goes un-trialed …
BTW … did you turn on safe filter for this image ?

  • Thanks Rishi – no I haven’t turned on the filter. Please do let me know if you think I should or are offended by the pic.

Interesting what you say about the safe filter. I must admit I wouldn’t worry about it…the lighting here is subtle enough to stop it being totally confronting! :)
