The Nilgiris (literally translates to Blue Mountains) is a range of mountains across the South of India is a relatively old mountain range and it’s maximum height is around 2600m. The blue comes from the thousands of Eucalyptus trees that dot the mountains lending their hues to the overall colour-scape.
This particular view is what I enjoyed over the New Year – literally a blue view taken around sunset :-)

Nilgiri is really blue … is it photoshopped ?? Or natural colour ?
Very nicely captured.
LOL – it is very blue – I helped it along by setting the WB to Tungsten and then under-exposing by 1.5 stops – really enhanced the blues! The only bit PS touched was in cropping the image to crop out an ugly cell-phone tower on the bottom left of the scene.

A magical scenery, Vikram! I love the layers in different shades of blue. Awesome work!
Thanks Johanne – what drew me to this (besides the layers), was the light hitting the little hut with smoke coming from its chimney

Very beautiful shot! I love all the many levels of blue in these mountains.
Thanks Carole – I was lucky that it was so clear that day – usually the clouds descend over all the peaks and you can’t see more than the first layer.

Thanks Gary – glad you dropped by and liked what you saw.

Why are they called Blue?? Only kidding – great shot!!
LOL – Actually there is a reason – because of the eucalyptus trees that grow on these mountains – they give the range this lovely blue look.
