Heather Nel
ok, now this is FABULOUS !!!!!!!! I love the colour, clarity and originality of the composition. well done : )
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you so much Heather – for the fab comment and for the fav!! Not too sure about the ‘originality’ bit as I’m certain I’ve seen similar compositions – though this is part of my collection of ‘cliche’ shots (pics that are classic compositions and should be tried at least once)
Ursula Rodgers
Oh I love this Vikram! Beautiful, elegant tones and lighting, not to mention the wonderful composition!
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you Ursula – thought you’d like this one!!
Thanks so much for the fav!!
SandraRos
Now this is just FANTASTIC !!! The color, the composition and line which the eye follows is just brilliant
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you so much Sandra.
Pleased you noticed the line – I took a bit of trouble to ensure that the rims didn’t intersect and had to take a lower viewpoint to get a stronger converging point.
Shelly Hiebert
You…..well…..I don’t even know were to start with you sometimes lol! You are without a doubt my favourite ‘technical’ guy on rb! You take such great care with all the technical details and set up. Most of your work could be used for product adds in magazines etc. THIS is beyond perfect with your composition, lighting, everything. Spotless perfection….....LOVE THIS VIKRAM!
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you once again Shelly!! You’re a great source of encouragement – I really do mean that my friend – thank you!
I should also take a pic of the set-up next time – far from tech. I had a white board propped up by books behind the glasses and a kitchen towel roll acting as a wrap-around diffuser around the entire ‘set’. It’s easy-peasy Shelly – and once you start shooting one thing, ideas will keep rolling. The SB-800 is really, really versatile at getting pro-type lighting in a small space.
TickerGirl
Excellent execution Vikram. I had this concept in mind for a while now and was planning to do it when I finally find some time but you were faster! :) And you did an awsome job too!
Vikram Franklin replied
Hey thank you so much Monika!! I’ve had it in mind for a while too – though wanted different liquids pouring into each glass – just don’t have enough hands to execute – LOL!!
Would love to see your take on this composition. As I said above – it’s one of those ‘cliche’ shots that needs a photographer to bring ‘themselves’ to.
Ingz
I love this kind of photography…..excellent as always….ps did you join?
Vikram Franklin replied
Thanks Ingrid. Me too!! I always thought it required an expensive studio – till I figured I could replicate complex lighting with just a couple of flash-guns.
I did join – infact most of the shoot was spent on pics for stock. Just about a dozen for my ‘pleasure’ – LOL!!
lucin
A delight! Description wonderful. Thanks for the details of shoot, too. :)
Vikram Franklin replied
Thanks Lucin!! Glad to share the details of my kitchen/studio – LOL!! Someday I’ll have enough space to actually set up small studio at home.
Johanne Brunet
Absolutely brilliant! What’s more to say?... ;-)
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you my friend. When you say that – I know you absolutely mean it and that’s all that counts.
Thanks for the fav too!!
monocotylidono
Someone… give this man some wine, quickly! :-) Superb composition! And I really like the clever tone switching!
Vikram Franklin replied
Quick someone please listen to that brilliant comment!! A nice white would have gone down brilliantly with the shoot!!
I initially shot this with a blue filter on the flash – but didn’t like the result then had a Eureka moment and switched to tungsten WB.
micklyn

Vikram Franklin replied
THANK YOU!! Can’t say it enough times!! (for the fav too)

WOW, I think this blue version is the best. Stunning work Vikram. Don.
Vikram Franklin replied
Thanks Don. I tried a blue filter on the flash, on the camera, and in PP. Finally struck me to change WB to Tungsten (real duh moment followed by a eureka moment!!)
Turned out quite well imo – glad you like it too!!
DonDavisUK

...recovering from a ligament injury lately and interesting shooting around b’lore…mmm…i made pal with a korean guy over here and got some snaps of him…thats it!...just good ol’ fashioned portraits :) But somehow I love the processing I did there :)
Vikram Franklin replied
Ouch!! That must be painful!!
So where are those portraits?? I find portraiture pretty intimidating – very seldom do I try it.
Joanne Bradley
This image is awesome! Extraordinary composition, color and clarity!
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you so much Joanne – your comments always bring a smile to my face!
caffeinepowered
wow
Vikram Franklin replied
:-)))) – Thanks!!
Saikat Babin B...
Infact, I have had this ligament injuries a few times before, at differnt location of the body ;) So wasn’t much of a very very painfull expirience…LOL
For the portraits..I posted 2 of them here and 4 on flickr. The flickr link would be www.flickr.com/photos/garfield_the_Cat/
Ralph Olsson
Vikram Franklin replied
Yay!!! Thank you so much Ralph!!
John Hooton
Another steep challenge. Apart from the excellent lighting, I would guess you can probably handle a rifle pretty well!!
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you for a great compliment John. I suppose the shooting techniques are pretty similar in terms of breath control – never thought of it that way – LOL!!
Hannah Partridge
brilliantly done!! very well done!
Vikram Franklin replied
Thank you so much Hannah!!
R. Jason Smith
Vikram Franklin replied
YAY!!!! Thank you so, so much Jason!!

Wayne Pearson
I really love the creativity here, excellent.
Vikram Franklin replied
Thanks Wayne! Not so sure about the creativity – it’s been done before (see my calendar Cliche) – it’s in the execution though that the difficulty lies.
Gary Murison
The tungsten wb was the perfect choice. Beautiful work
Vikram Franklin replied
Thanks Gary – I first tried it by gelling the flash – but it was a bit too intense and I wasn’t getting what I pictured.
It was only after a number of tries that I remembered WB!!!
Linda Bianic
Now ;how did I miss this one?? Its superb Vik,,,, and thanks for all the set up detail,,, rainy afternoons can be soooooo great!!!
Vikram Franklin replied
:-) thanks Linda!!
I plan to take a shot of the actual set-up next time I shoot counter-top – hopefully would be a lot clearer than my explanation!

Hiya! This piece got 2nd place in Color Me a Rainbow’s Blue challenge. Just to cover all bases to make sure we dont have a first place tie, can you please tell me how many vote this piece got in that challenge? To do so, on your bubble overview page, there’s a box to the right that holds all your groups. Scroll down to Color Me a Rainbow, and your entry should be there with the number of votes it received in the challenge. Just let me know what that says and I will give you the correct billing for your challenge place! Thanks! ;-)
Vikram Franklin replied
Hey Taylor – it shows 11 votes out there.
Taylor Sawyer
You tied for first place! I think I really am spoiling you! ;-) Or maybe you are just that awesome?
